Type of SeafoodSeafood is amazing. It is healthy, tasty and comparably easier to make than red meat. Most of us have tasted only a few types of seafood. However, there is so much variety in seafood that it will boggle your mind.

The types of seafood are varied and many. Seafood is one of the most varied food resources, not just the world but also India. India is rich in seafood and it forms the primary diet of lots of people, especially those living next to the coast such as Bengalis and Goans. While there are a lot of types of seafood such as fish, prawns, the fact is that even within this category there is even more variety available. For example, if we take fish, then there are so many types of fishes that we can choose from to have.

If you are a fan of seafood, you should really know about the types of seafood available. Here is a brief lowdown on the types. Surely you would have obviously had some. However, there may be some types that you have yet to get your hands on.
  •   FISH - There way too many fish types. Examples: bass, salmon, halibut, sardines, haddock, Bombay duck, snapper, sole, trout, tuna and so many more.
  •   ROE - This basically fish eggs. Caviar is one name that people have heard the most, but it is not the only one. Caviar is basically sturgeon fish eggs. However, there are others also such as tobiko (flying-fish roe), salmon roe (ikura), herring roe (kazunoko) and other types.
  •   SHELLFISH - These include basically those with an outer shell, as the name suggests. They are of two types: crustaceans and molluscs. Crustaceans include - shrimp, crab, lobster and others. Examples of molluscs are clams, conch, oysters, mussels, scallops, and so on.
  •    ECHINODERMS -  So, the name sounds very science-y. However, it basically means seafood like sea cucumbers and sea urchin.
This is just a broad distinction of the types of seafood. Within each category there is so much astonishing variety. If you haven't had any, do go and look for it. Make sure that your seafood experience is as wide and varied as the types available.
